Captain Your ZogSports Team Without the Stress

Here are some tips for common questions we get from captains. If you have additional questions that haven’t been answered or tips for us to share with other captains, please send them to christie@zogsports.com.

"I have a tough time collecting money from everyone on my team and always end up paying more than my share."

  • Check out our new partnership with WePay. It allows your teammates to pay you back online.
  • Overestimate the amount of money that each player should give you. If someone backs out last minute, you won’t be short on cash. If nobody backs out you can refund everyone at the start of the season. You can also use the extra money to treat your team to happy hour drinks or donate it to your team's favorite charity!
  • Don’t let players get on the field/court until they have paid.
  • Start collecting before registration opens up.
  • Escort those unpaid members of you team directly to an ATM after your first game
  • We don’t recommend hiring a goon with a baseball bat, but if you do please don’t let us know about it!

“How can I make sure we have enough people to play each week?”

  • Send a reminder email two days prior to the game asking people whether they can make it. This will give you enough time to find a substitute if it looks like your team is going to be short a few players. (Just make sure your substitute has already signed the ZogSports waiver!)

“I want to register a team this season, but I still need a few extra players to fill my roster. What are some easy ways to recruit teammates?”

  • Post a Facebook and Twitter status saying that you need a few extra people for your ZogSports team. Ask everyone else on your team to do the same, and you’ll be surprised by how many people decide to hop on your roster. You can also send an email out to co-workers asking if any of them or their friends would be interested in joining.

“Which level of competition should I register my team for?”

  • Players Division - Think you're a jock? This division will be competitive, but still fun.
  • Sorta Players - Pretty good athletes, maybe played together before, but still social and laid back.
  • Casual Division - Played before? Not a bad athlete? This is the happy middle ground.
  • Extremely Casual Division - This is the pure fun division. It's for you if you're looking more for the social than the competition or consider yourself a beginner at the organized game.
